Contec Leads the Industrial Expansion of Pakelo Lubrificants
The work on the industrial expansion of Pakelo continues as scheduled, with Gruppo Contec fully involved in leveraging its expertise to support the growth investment of the historic Verona-based company.
Pakelo Lubrificants (www.pakelo.com),
a leader in the production of lubricating oils and greases, has maintained its headquarters in San Bonifacio (Verona), where in 1930, Italo Rino Polacco founded the business of selling lubricating oils in the family shop for the local market.
Today, Pakelo’s products are used in almost every sector: automotive, motorcycles, heavy-duty transportation, construction, agriculture, industrial, food industry, and marine.
With a catalog of over 1,000 products, Pakelo manufactures at its plant:
- Engine oils
- Transmission and differential lubricants
- Automatic transmission fluids
- Universal lubricants
- Hydraulic oils
- Industrial oils
- Food-grade oils
- Biodegradable oils (Ecolabel)
- Greases
- Additives and cooling fluids:
In an evolving and increasingly competitive market, Pakelo – adopting a just-in-time production model and involving nearly 100 employees – faces the future with an ambitious and strategic investment project that will be realized through the construction of a new facility.
THE PROJECT
The expansion at Viale delle Fontanelle will bring Pakelo to a total company asset of about 18,000 sqm by 2023.
After completing the design in March, the first preparatory works began, including the demolition of existing buildings, geological surveys, and soil stabilization (jet grouting).
Following this, the construction process entered its core phase, involving the management of numerous contracts for prefabricated and civil works, waterproofing, electrical and mechanical installations, and will soon include the installation of production plants for the new facility.
In addition to the necessary connection structure between the existing and the newly constructed parts, the future building will house a production area, warehouse, offices, changing rooms, break areas, laboratories, storage tanks, and production service plants.
THE CHALLENGES
As often happens in development plans supporting industries and their substantial investments, time is one of the most critical variables to manage.
The Contec team is diligently working to deliver the new production plant by June 2023. The process is being directed with organization and expertise gained from many years of experience managing the complexities typical of construction processes.
The lubricant production sector is niche, so the design of the building envelope carefully evaluated the types of handling and production phases that will take place inside once the plant is operational.
A good design translates the needs of the activities the building will host into spaces and finishes.
CONTEC’S ROLE
Gruppo Contec was chosen by Pakelo to support the development of the investment through the solid synergy of expertise it offers. Contec Ingegneria leads the project design, implementation, and overall process management, while Contec AQS Ambiente Qualità Sicurezza provides complementary services related to site safety. Within the complex industrial processes, Contec Industry also contributed by supporting the procurement of machinery related to Industry 4.0.

Below are some images from the site visit of final-year students from the ESEV – CPT school.
Pakelo Lubrificants and Contec Ingegneria hosted the fifth-grade class from ISISS M.O. “Luciano Dal Cero” Technical Institute of San Bonifacio, specializing in Construction, Environment, and Territory, at the ongoing industrial expansion site. The visit is part of a three-year project – now in its eleventh year – promoted by ESEV-CPT of Verona, INAIL of Verona, SPISAL Provincial, the Labor Inspectorate, and the Municipality of Verona, along with technical institutes in the Construction, Environment, and Territory fields from the Verona province, and ANCE Verona.
The project aims to support the development of a safety culture starting from schools, through activities that enable future workers in the construction sector to gain direct knowledge and expertise in safety practices.
The project targets third, fourth, and fifth-year students, offering support to teachers in the new subject, “Construction Site Management and Safety,” introduced in September 2012 by the Gelmini Reform.
The key topics of the project include:
– Health surveillance and accidents (curated by SPISAL)
– Knowledge of the main construction machinery and equipment (curated by INAIL)
– Scaffolding assembly activities and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for assembling temporary works
– Risk identification activities in a specially set-up educational construction site (curated by ESEV-CPT)
– Organization of visits to selected construction sites to observe safety issues and solutions for worker health and hygiene protection (curated by ESEV-CPT)
Before the site visits, students are prepared in class, learning the proper approach to a construction site. Essential PPE is provided to all participants. Students are accompanied by ESEV-CPT technicians in a guided tour, coordinated with the contracting company, client, and Safety Coordination (CSE). The visits are concluded with a session in class, led by SPISAL prevention technicians.
Each year, approximately 400 students from all over the Verona province participate in this educational project.
Pakelo Lubrificants’ industrial expansion in San Bonifacio was chosen as a valuable example for students to visit a real construction site, where safety measures, tools, and behaviors for preventing workplace accidents are implemented.
