    Cultural Tourism in Verona: A Guide Celebrates Architecture

    A special new guide becomes an opportunity to enhance cultural tourism in Verona through the region’s architecture, which also includes several contributions from Contec Ingegneria, providing technical consulting services for restoration, including for protected monumental heritage.

    On September 20, 2022, in Milan at the Triennale, the book GUIDA ARCHITETTONICA DI VERONA E DEL LAGO DI GARDA by Sergey Nikitin-Rimsky, published by DOM Publishers, will be presented. The book offers a fresh and irreverent perspective on Verona.

    Founded more than 2,000 years ago, Verona is Italy’s fourth most visited city and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city is rich in Roman architecture and Gothic gems, as well as Brutalist masterpieces.

    However, Verona tends to attract tourists for little more than a gelato beneath Juliet’s balcony, despite having countless architectural stories to tell.

    Nikitin-Rimsky provides a privileged view of Verona, from an outsider’s perspective, highlighting notable features that often go unnoticed by locals, and offering new semantic value to lesser-known monuments.

    Modern cultural consumption no longer focuses solely on classical monuments. We are increasingly interested in industrial archaeology, postwar neighborhoods, and military mills — all of which can be found here, in this city and its surroundings.
    After 20 years of personal connection with Verona, I decided to gather all my experiences in this city, often shared with my closest friends and foreign architects visiting. The result is a richly detailed guide that immediately captured the interest of the publisher DOM Publishers, specializing in urban architecture from many countries.
    (Sergey Nikitin-Rimsky)

    The book is part of a broader initiative to revitalize Verona, along with its natural resources and the historical heritage of prestigious nearby areas such as Lake Garda, Lessinia, and Valpolicella — all of which contribute to the vast range of cultural and landscape experiences this province can offer.

    The city is not just about Juliet and Romeo and the Arena; it is also about Carlo Scarpa and the entire 20th century, which help create value for cultural tourism in Verona.

    Through its expertise, Contec Ingegneria has contributed to this ambitious and significant territorial enhancement for cultural tourism in Verona. With great emotion, numerous projects involving their restoration work or new initiatives are featured in the book, including:

    • Castelvecchio;
    • Corte Sgarzerie;
    • Palazzo del Capitanio;
    • Domus Mercatorum;
    • Case Mazzanti;
    • Sinagoga di Verona;
    • Dogana di San Fermo;
    • Palazzo Verità Montanari;
    • Camera di Commercio;
    • Casa di riposo Don Steeb;
    • Palazzo Orti Manara;
    • Chiesa di San Zeno in Oratorio;
